‘Welcome to Castle School

a note from the Head Teacher

Castle School is a 4-19 Co-educational Community Special School within the metropolitan Borough of Walsall. Pupils are drawn out from throughout the Borough and in addition, the school admits extra-district pupils where places are available.

The school is funded for pupils with moderate learning difficulties. In addition there is a curriculum for pupils with speech and language difficulties. There are a limited number of places for pupils within the Autistic Spectrum.

Castle School has links with several mainstream schools and groups of pupils are able to make use of their extensive sports facilities. In addition, where appropriate, individual pupils may attend mainstream schools on a part-time basis. Should a planned re-integration into mainstream education be deemed appropriate then a programme is drawn up in consultation with parents and all relevant agencies.

Students in their final year at school are given individual careers counselling and advice. There are numerous external links with work-related placements, with Walsall College and Adult training Centres.

Many ex-students return to visit from time to time and this continued contact is encouraged.

We are always pleased to see parents and there are many opportunities for them to be involved in the life of the school. Regular parent group meetings are held and the Social Activities are well supported by both staff and parents.
